Strengthening Private Sector Capacity to Prevent Corruption and Enhance Integrity in the Arab Countries

To prevent corruption by enhancing integrity in the private sector in Arab countries

Through this project, UNODC works to reduce opportunities for corruption in the private sector by strengthening anti-corruption legal frameworks, public-private sector dialogue and private sector capacity to enhance business integrity in Egypt, Iraq, Libya, Morocco, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates.

For this purpose, UNODC supports the development of anti-corruption, ethics and compliance programmes for companies and assists countries to undertake legislative improvements with regard to combating corruption in the private sector.

Activities in Egypt are also part of the Global Action for Business Integrity project.

More than 11 anti-corruption resources and tools were developed for the public and the private sector

1 regional study and 2 legal assessment studies for Iraq and Morocco were developed in partnership with national authorities

Over 1,300 representatives of the public sector and the private sector in the MENA region have been engaged in capacity-building and public-private dialogues on business integrity

Over 200 SMEs across the region participated in targeted training sessions and one-on-one consultations to assess corruption risks and develop tailored compliance programmes

31 training sessions, workshops and events on business integrity were conducted across 6 countries in the MENA region

4 global and regional events were organized, fostering knowledge exchange and peer learning on business integrity among public and private sector representatives

More than 20 companies across the MENA region developed internal compliance programmes after participating in UNODC training sessions and receiving mentorship on corruption risk assessment and development of internal compliance programmes

An online corruption risk assessment tool was developed to empower SMEs in the MENA region to identify corruption risks and implement effective mitigation measures
